Teaching approachLike parachute pants in the 80s, then the grunge look in the 90s, Sean Penney has kept up with computer trends and technological evolution since he first entered his teaching career. In the beginning, it was all about word processing and databases, then with the advent of the internet, Mr. Penney had his student squeezing as much as possible out of the available bandwidth. Today, he integrates technology seamlessly into his lessons to solve problems and streamline his work.
- Mr. Penney was one of the founding members of the pan-Canadian group, Learn Canada, which espoused interaction among students and teachers via a high-speed video conferencing interface.
- Parents can keep up to date on course descriptions, evaluation scheme and important dates through Penney’s comprehensive website: www.web.mac.com/seanpenney/
- Penney’s students are actively involved in learning French. They participate in the French club, and although they enjoy films and music, they’ve also organized a peer tutoring program with junior high school students throughout the city.
"He’s always willing to help out a teacher who is less technology-savvy and with a few clicks with that marker, I swear he can do anything with that board. (…) I’m sure in years to come, Mr. Penney’s classroom would be one of the first places I would visit to see what new type of technology he’s discovered and conquered to make French one of the coolest subjects to take."
"When one speaks of lead teachers, Mr. Penney’s name immediately leaps to mind. (…) He is a gentleman and a scholar in every sense of those words, and a ‘helluva’ nice guy."
