Teaching method
With the patience of climber, who does not always look for the fastest path (nor, incidentally, the easiest!), Étienne Fortin teaches his students to proudly scale their own “mountains”. He often refers to the encouraging words of the adventurer, Bernard Voyer: “Dream, get up and go.” The activities he plans for his students’ transform them not only into independent responsible young people, but also give them a feeling of belonging to their school.

Outstanding achievements

  • During the sports weeks, Mr. Fortin and a few students prepared a surprise for their peers: a slide presentation showing the students in action in their favourite sports. With the parents’ cooperation, they presented the slide show to the entire school.
  • Mr. Fortin’s students help students in Grade one learn to read. Every morning, the Grade 6 students listen to, advise and question the younger children on their books.
  • Historians, museum specialists and architects in training, Mr. Fortin’s students participate in activities and projects anchored in real life. Mr. Fortin also establishes links and partnerships to expose his students as much as possible to the community, whether a seniors’ residence, the judo club, an architect or a publishing company, the students learn from direct contact.

Rave Reviews:

"For me, he was more than a teacher because he wasn’t satisfied with just teaching us the subject. He also wanted to know us, help us and guide us through the happy and sad times of our lives."

Student

"Mr. Étienne is a calm but impassioned man. He’s organized but intuitive, analytical but creative. He knows how to make a difference in his students’ progress. He is one of those teachers that we hope our children will encounter early in life. He is a role model. For us, at l’école Sacré-Cœur, Mr. Étienne is our hero!"
