Teaching Approach
- Involves his students in the environmental movement by giving them ways to make a difference at the grassroots and by pressuring decision-makers. Students gain practical experience and knowledge by working on projects that make a direct contribution to the community.
- Uses a wide and varied range of information sources in teaching, including scientific works, guest experts and cutting-edge technology such as global positioning.
Outstanding Achievements
- Founded the Groupe d'aide à la recherche et à l'aménagement de la faune (GARAF), a group of students, lab technicians and teachers from all levels formed to assist with wildlife research and management. Since it was created in 1999, GARAF has taken inventory of fish in the Saint-François River and monitored fish health, in conjunction with the Montreal Biosphere and Environment Canada; studied the ecological potential of a stream located near a landfill site and submitted its findings to the City of Drummondville; and made recommendations that led to the creation of the first conservation servitude establish outright and in perpetuity in Canada.
- Initiated the Science en ligne project, which facilitates the transfer of knowledge among secondary and elementary students.
