"The name really says it all," explains Gayle Esler of G.L. Roberts Collegiate and Vocational Institute in Oshawa, Ontario. 2B Cont'd is for everyone who's at a decision point in their educational career.
Esler and Tim Edwards, the head of G.L. Roberts' guidance department, initially developed the program as a way to intercept those students leaving high school before they had gained their diploma. "It has developed beyond its original intent to reach students on the point of leaving, students at risk of leaving, and those who have already left but are reconsidering," says Esler. The on-line, interactive program now offers employability skills training, career planning, alternatives to high school, personal management skills and a credit course.
Students get a one-half credit in career planning for completing the course. They can earn a second half-credit if they take a related work placement.
