Ginette Larose

Ginette Larose of École du Sacré-Cur in Masson-Angers likes to get her primary-level students cultivating new growth, often in tangible ways. For example, she created a program in horticulture that saw students up to their elbows in earth, seedlings and fertilizer, teaching them how to identify different types of crops and how to grow them, and the usefulness of plants for maintaining good health and a strong immune system. She also encouraged them to enter a contest run by the town's environmental committee to come up with a slogan for local environmental programs. The students not only entered the contest, they won. These and many other rewarding hands-on activities have created considerable enthusiasm among Ms. Larose's students, who all signed a letter of support when their teacher was applying for this award.
