Jeannette Borstad

Jeannette Borstad of Hillside Community School in Grande Prairie, Alberta, is a long-time community activist. Inside her classroom she has created a mini-community in which students work together and benefit from the assistance and emotional support of others. Programs, such as the class' study of animal life cycles, are run democratically. By offering a range of choices and having the entire class work together to make decisions, Ms. Borstad has given her students a sense of responsibility for the ir learning.
